What services do you offer and how do I find you?

BESTPREP is primarily a tutoring center for middle and high school students. While we are able to provide tutoring in many subjects, our most popular product is SAT and ACT test prep. We offer 1-on-1 tutoring and small group classes for the SAT and ACT year round, and add special enrichment classes in the summer, We also provide 1-on-1 tutoring for most school subjects, including math, science, reading, and foreign languages.

We are located in Cornelius at the corner of Bailey Road and Statesville Roads in the Oakhurst building. We are upstairs in Suite 245. The building has two primary entrances at 9624 Bailey Road and 17830 Statesville Road. Look for the sign that says “Village Office Suites” and take the elevator to the second floor.

We also offer additional educational services on a case by case basis. Please see our Other Services tab for more information on these.

I just want test prep. Should I sign up for 1-on-1 or a class?

It depends on your needs and budget. Classes are offered for every administration of the SAT and ACT. Six spots are offered until the classes are full. These are often the best option at the last minute.

1-on-1 is a much more customized approach, and, as a result, there is an orientation for this service. If a student’s first test is at least 3-4 months away, it is very likely that we can provide this service in a timely manner.

Please contact us if you have concerns about scheduling before you sign up for 1-on-1.

NOTE: Our calendar links are open to the public, but students who schedule without first paying a deposit will have those sessions cancelled.

How are the classes structured?

The small size of the classes (6 students MAX) makes them appropriate for all learners. Students can, and should, ask any questions they may have in the small groups.

The first session offers a preview of each section of the test. Problems are presented in a lecture format and students take notes/follow along. Any exercises done in the classes will be done under standard time limits but the instructor always makes it clear how a student with accommodations should treat that portion of the test.

Subsequent sessions begin with 15-30 minutes of homework review followed by individualized work assigned by the instructor. Homework is assigned at the end of each session. At the end of the last session, each student will be provided with a unique strategy for test day.

WAIT, THERE'S HOMEWORK?
At the end of each session, students will be given 60-90 minutes worth of homework to complete before the next session.

WHO TEACHES THE SESSIONS?
Many will be taught by Dane Dysert, who brings proven strategies and years of test prep experience to each session. Other tutors will occasionally teach classes when Dane is not available. This is often the case on Mondays and Saturdays.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
A calculator and something to write with. All other materials are provided.

WHAT IF I HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS?
After the general homework review, students have the ability to ask the instructor any and all questions that they may have, either privately or in front of the group.

WHAT IF I ONLY NEED HELP ON ONE SECTION?
Each session offers 60-75 minutes of individualized work time wherein a student can work on the specific section he or she needs to improve.

I think I only need a few sessions. Can you still help me?

We feel that our 1-on-1 and small groups effectively serve 99% of our customers but there is always an exception. 1-hour sessions are available as our calendar permits on a case by case basis. In the past, these sessions have typically been available to students who are already scoring above the 90th percentile, need a very small improvement (1 ACT point or less than 40 SAT points) to qualify for athletic or academic scholarships, or have a history with Best Prep. If you feel this applies to you, please contact us for pricing and availability.
